To Have Courage

Charlie Ekizian suffers from a spinal cord injury. In 1968, due to a diving accident, Charlie broke his neck. Told that he would not live a normal life, Charlie went on to achieve many great things.

Early on in his injury, Charlie got involved in disabled sports. Being a role model for the newly injured, Charlie with the help of his wife Danielle formed, Wheelchair Sports and Recreation Association, located in the Boston area. WSRA’s main function was to help the newly injured get involved in adaptive sports.

Charlie has been in the wheelchair for over 40 years. He still has a positive mind as he did from the beginning. Today, Charlie and Danielle reside in Destin, Florida.

Going the Distance Preview

“A truly inspiring film. I was touched by the “can do” attitudes of Charlie and film maker, Brian Dery. Charlie’s grace is apparent. I am a better person for having seen this film”.

–Hal Griffin
